TotalDECOM – Decommissioning News Summary – August 2016

 

Well summer is well underway (not that you could tell by the weather!) but the decommissioning industry is all systems go as usual – recent events include sea lifts that will go down in history, responses to financial uncertainty and a first for Brazilian defence decommissioning. Read on for a round up of news stories relating to the decommissioning industry:

• International Defence Decommissioning

InterMoor do Brasil have successfully disconnected a submerged Turret Production System (STP) as part of the wider decommissioning operations of the OSX-1 Floating Production System and Offloading (FPSO). With this task completed the vessel will be able to make its way on the last leg of its journey. The OSX-1 is the first FPSO to be decommissioned within Brazilian waters. • Decom Market News

As the financial situation in the UK and Europe continues to remain unsteady, the Dutch firm Damen has made a key move in the Decom Market. They have announced a decommissioning series, which features three vessels, each with core specialism’s that cover the core areas of offshore decommissioning. These new additions to their range, demonstrate the company’s commitment to driving technology in the Decom market. To visit the Damen site for more information click here.

• Oil and Gas

Shell will begin the decommissioning process for the Brent Delta platform later this year, after ten years of seeking the optimum solution. One of the reasons for the delay is the logistics of lifting the topside in a single lift, using the newly completed Pioneering Spirit. The lift of the 24,200 unit will be the heaviest ever lift to be conducted at sea.
