Professor Joe Howe, Executive Director and Professor of the Thornton Energy Institute, University of Chester
Joe has received numerous research contracts from Government Departments, RCUK and the EU and has published in excess of 100 peer reviewed articles. He is currently an investigator on two Innovate UK projects concerned with Carbon Capture and Storage and Nuclear Decommissioning respectively.
Externally Joe holds a number of roles including:
- Academic Associate of the National Nuclear Laboratory;
- Visiting Professor at Harbin Institute of Technology;
- Board member of the Cheshire Energy Hub;
- Steering Committee member of the Decarbonised Gas Alliance;
- Member of the NW Regional Manufacturers Association;
- Member of BEISNW Unconventional Oil and Gas Working Group;
- Member of Engineering and Construction Industries Training Board Task Force on Future skills and technologies.
- Chair of the NW Hydrogen Hub.

John Berry, Supply Chain Manager – Innovation and Diversification,
John is part of the Supply Chain Development Team at Sellafield. Part of his role is to build strong relationships for positive impact, working as the conduit between Sellafield Ltd and the supply chain. Specifically to
increase direct and indirect SME spend, develop an innovation roadmap to enable inward and outward innovation engagement, to assist the supply chain to take new and existing products/services to new markets. Before joining Sellafield in May 2018 John spent 7 years in the higher education sector, designing and delivering innovation programmes for SMEs and creating solutions between our academic knowledge base and industry. Prior to that he was a business advisor and consultant working across the public, private and voluntary sectors. Since 2016 he has served as a Director of Britain’s Energy Coast Business Cluster.

Dr Kevin Malone is a chartered chemical engineer with over ten years’ nuclear industry experience in a range of commercial, technical, and operations roles. His current role is Business Development Manager where his focus is new business outside for URENCO Nuclear Stewardship’s existing contracts with NDA.

Steven Little, Director
Steven is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and a Member of the Institute of Asset Management (IAM). He has 20 years’ experience of identifying, supporting change to, and delivering asset management strategies as well as policies and programmes across numerous sectors including Nuclear, Health, Defence, Industrial, Commercial, Retail, Education and Infrastructure.
Steven has led teams supporting organisations to apply strategies and meet objectives by effective and efficient management of their assets. He has had material published on the subject of Asset Management in industry publications, relating to new asset management principles. He is also actively involved with IAM and is currently the Project Manager and joint author for IAM International Subject Specific Guidelines publication for Configuration Management.
